RSS Has On-Site Behavioral Health Services

Confidential Geriatric Behavioral Health Services at Riverdale Senior Services: Riverdale Senior Services (RSS) is proud to offer compassionate, culturally responsive behavioral health and wellness services for older adults in our community. Our dedicated behavioral health and wellness team includes LMSW, LCSW and MSW interns (English and Spanish), all committed to supporting your emotional well-being. RSS also proudly serves as a training site for the next generation of behavioral health and wellness providers, contributing to the future of quality mental health care for older adults. This essential program is partially funded by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) through the Geriatric Mental Health Initiative (GMHI).

The first step to accessing services is to schedule three free, confidential mental health screenings, which can help us understand your needs and guide our interventions. We use 3 evidence-based screening tools, they are the PHQ-9 for depression, GAD-7 for anxiety and the MSSI-SA for substance use behaviors. To schedule your screenings, please contact: Ms. Gigi Estevez, LMSW at 718-884-5900 ext. 25 or email her at gestevez@rssny.org. After completing the screenings, you will meet with our Director of Clinical Services, Elizabeth Alvarado, LCSW-R, to explore personalized behavioral health and wellness options tailored to your unique needs and goals.

Depending on your assessment, preferences and needs the following options are available.

  • Individual counseling (on-site at RSS, via home visit, or virtually)
  • Peer support and psychoeducational groups (focused on grief, coping with health changes, life transitions, and more)

If a group support is recommended, Gigi Estevez, LMSW, will assist you in registering for the appropriate group.  We offer the following groups at RSS:

  • Savvy Solo Support Group – for adults aging alone
  • Caregiver Support Group – for spouses/significant others of people with Alzheimer’s or other dementias
  • Women’s Empowerment Group – build confidence and connection
  • Grief & Bereavement Support Groups – as needed, for those coping with life transitions, death and losses.

Our goal is to help older adults feel seen, supported, and empowered to thrive emotionally and socially.
